Vote for Change: Alexandria, Virginia
Registering voters is one of the big tasks that our incredible Obama Organizing Fellows are taking on, and as the Vote for Change national voter registration drive kicks into high gear again over the July 4th holiday, fellows are taking to the streets to register as many voters as possible.
Meagan, a fellow based out of Alexandria, Virginia, is preparing for her first major effort since she started with the program…
We’ve done registration every day, but this is our first big event that is sort of our own. In the past, we’ve done some with the local Young Dems group, but this is the first that just the fellows have put on.
We have about 40 volunteers registered online and some others who have come in through e-mail confirmations and will be going out into the community to unregistered residences to try to get them registered. We’re also going to be on the street in high traffic areas, like large apartment complexes, car parks, a waterfront area in Alexandria, and different shopping centers.
Meagan and her colleagues in the field have also been phonebanking and working with other local grassroots organizations to blanket the streets with volunteers this weekend.
It’s efforts like theirs that are going to help change the electoral landscape and shape races up and down the ballot this November. There are over 600 Vote for Change events going on today, and hundreds more this weekend. Click here to find one near you, and volunteer your time to sign up more Americans for our ultimate civic duty.
